  10.      I recently reworked the QUIP programs on CUG disk number
  11. 182.  I have enclosed a disk with the modified programs and the
  12. corrected data files.  I found a number of problems with the
  13. programs as released on the CUG disk.  Among them partially
  14. implemented features (no seeding of the random number generator),
  15. incompatibilities with DOS (get_login() & directory names), un-
  16. portable file structure.  
  17.  
  18.      I updated the programs so that they compiled correctly under
  19. Microsoft's  Quick C release 1.0 with the ANSI switch on.  Other
  20. changes included reworking of the data structure to support the
  21. use of an explicit SEPARATOR character.  The file names were
  22. changed so that they all start with QUIP.  Seeding of the srand()
  23. function with time().  Binary file opens were added where
  24. required.  Changing the references to 'fort' and 'fortune' to
  25. 'quip'.  Compilation under UNIX is still supported through a
  26. preprocessor define (untested as yet).  Other minor modifications
  27. were also made.

  30. universally useful in both the MS-DOS and UNIX worlds.  If you
